Good morning Cloud! After much searching for an appropriate moniker for this blog, I finally settled on CloudChat. Then, lo and behold, I discovered that CloudChat is the name of a 32-bit Jabber (think GoogleTalk) IM client. In order to reduce confusion and (hopefully) bump some traffic their way, I’m linking to that project from here in case anyone stumbles across my site looking for CloudChat-the-software versus my completely un-related CloudChat-the-blog. Check out the software if you get a chance.

According to this article from FierceVoIP, Skype is changing its pricing structure from a fixed charge per minute to a fixed charge per call according to this press release. While I would be thrilled if this were the case, a brief review of the Skype Unlimited Calling plan, which the article referenced, seems to indicate that the fixed charge per call is a fee above and beyond per-minute charges that ranges from nothing to 3.7 US cents. International calls beyond US and Canada (for those of us on this side of the pond) still incur per-minute charges. I truly hope FierceVoIP and Skype prove me wrong, but I’m not seeing that happen at this point. I’m posting my critique as a comment on the FierceVoIP article.
